Introductions

Welcome to Spirit Me Away…

(Of course, an intentional reference to one of my favourite films and Japanese animators!)

I thought I’d begin my first ever post on here with a little introduction to myself, my interests, why I wanted to start blogging and a sort of preface as to what kinds of posts I might be making on here…

Firstly, my name is Lily, I’m a 19 (almost 20) year old currently back home for the summer from my first year of university. I am a dancer, artist, animal/nature/music lover with a passion for collecting rocks, books and photographs. I’m now a second year studying dance at the University of Chichester, which I am loving, and also where I am slowly adapting to being a responsible, self-sufficient adult human; expect a few uni related anecdotal guides to come! My favourite thing to do when I have time (and the concentration) is to sketch and paint – my favourite subjects being dancers, animals and religious architecture. The love of my life is my big ginger fluff-baby cat called Biscuit, who lives at home along with our other kitties Buster and Silver Cat – her actual name, I’ll save the origins of silver cat for a later blog; and a Royal Python called Rocky. Personality-wise, I have an impossible time describing myself (for example, it took me at least 10 attempts to summarise myself before I gave up completely!); so, using the kind words of my friends, requested rather sadly via twitter… I am ‘Calm, persistent, caring, witty, thoughtful and lovely’ -which I hope to think is true!

A couple of times before I’ve attempted to write and maintain a blog but that never seems to go very far… but maybe this time I will be able to get into blogging!
I decided to start again because being off from uni over summer means I have some thinking space and a little time to write about things that interest me. I can discuss topics that I have a passion and appreciation for and also do a little reflection on my current position in life. You’ll see blogs about uni, dance, art and music, alongside more personal blogs about mental health topics and well being. There’ll be some poetry or stream-of-conscious posts, that will probably make more sense to me than to anyone reading, but, maybe some of my musings will be relatable and perhaps provide a little comfort.

In all, a pretty eclectic mix of writing – hopefully I’ll manage to entertain at least one reader, maybe even help a little by providing experiences that someone could relate to? Who knows! Hopefully this blog will be a useful tool for me to harness a lot of the thoughts that often hurtle around my brain, I find it hard to verbalise a lot of what I think, so writing may work better for me.
Please be kind, you may think my writing absolutely dreadful, but I am new to the world of blogging and any guidance is very much appreciated. If you’ve read this far then thank you!
Until the next time,
Lily
